Taan 1971
The Archive of Ancestral Narratives
A grassroots oral history project to preserve the memories of Bangladesh's 1971 Liberation War.
About Us
An estimated 300,000 to 3 million people died during the 1971 Liberation War, and millions more were displaced. But behind every statistic is a grandmother who fled her village at dawn, a teenager who joined the Mukti Bahini, a mother who never saw her son again. These stories—the ones whispered at family gatherings, the ones that still bring tears decades later—are disappearing with each passing year.
TAAN 1971 exists to capture them before silence becomes the only witness.
We're a grassroots oral history and digital archives project empowering youth to interview their elders about 1971—preserving these memories before they're lost forever.
